Where to shop in Fort Worth right now: 7 stores and sales for August (2024)

In August, our thoughts turn to back-to-school shopping, and our wallets follow closely behind. This month's Where to Shop roundup has some fun "shopportunities" before classes are back in session, from meaningful thrift shopping to gearing up for game days. A luxe new personal styling service and a big sale at one of Fort Worth's favorite jewelers add some sparkle and shine, too. Here's where to shop this month:

Fifth Avenue Club at Bowie House
Luxury department store Saks Fifth Avenue has debuted a petite boutique inside Fort Worth's acclaimed new Bowie House, Auberge Resorts Collection hotel. Called the Fifth Avenue Club Fort Worth, the shop offers by-appointment personal shopping and styling services to both hotel guests and the general public. How it works: Saks stylists will meet with clients (in person or virtually), then select clothing, shoes, jewelry, and handbags from nearby Saks Fifth Avenue stores, which will be delivered to the hotel's styling suite and presented on the next appointment. Fifth Avenue Club will also host trunk shows, jewelry showcases, and more shopping experiences. For information about upcoming events appointment bookings, visit saks.com/fifth-avenue-club.

Color Game
Fort Worth's official color of August is TCU purple, as Horned Frog fans fill their closets with new 'fits for fall football season. There's no better place to shop than Color Game, a locally owned fashion boutique now nestled into one of the oldest spots in town - the longtime home of The Original Mexican Eats Cafe, at 4725 Camp Bowie Blvd. In fact, the entire shop came to life when founder Erica Bracken "became frustrated by the lack of stylish game day clothing," they say. Need a fresh new pop of purple for the home opener? They've got headbands and jewelry galore, along with those all-important clear bags. Or style a complete head-to-toe look from their fresh new arrivals, including their newest brand, Lanhtropy. Get there quick to save 15 percent on select spring and summer styles during a three-day flash sale, August 1-3.

Thrift for Good
A thrift store that gives back to the community is introducing back-to-school personal styling appointments at its Hurst showroom (128 W Bedford-Euless Rd.), from August 5 through Labor Day. Personal styling appointments are free with a $75 purchase and aren't just for kids heading back to class; they're also for teachers or busy parents who want help putting together affordable and stylish outfits for the upcoming schoolyear. Stylists pull options from over 10,000 items including name-brands like Oshkosh B'Gosh, Gap, Calvin Klein, J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, and Ann Taylor, with items ranging from $5 to $20. Twenty-five percent of store proceeds go to DFW charities The Awareness Project, Autism Adventures, and more. For more information and to book a personal styling appointment, visit the website.

Hey Dude
Making its Fort Worth debut at Tanger Outlets, this Massachusetts-based casual footwear store will open in time for back-to-school shopping, they say. Hey Dude, owned by Crocs, specializes in comfortable, airy, "slipper-like" (but stylish) shoes for the whole family. The 3,000-square-foot store is nearly ready to open its doors next to Gap in the far north Fort Worth outlet center (15853 North Frwy.). It will carry a range of styles and sizes, including the brand's signature "Wendy" and "Wally" slip-on shoes, along with new seasonal styles. Watch their Facebook page for updates on the opening.

North East Mall
Kids can learn valuable lessons before the first bell rings through North East Mall's "Out with the Old, In with the Cool: Back to School" event. The Hurst shopping mall is partnering with Hands on Texas, a thrift store and donation station supporting the Texas Association of the Deaf, for a clothing drive and give-back event. Clothing donations to Hands on Texas are being accepted through August 10 at 712 W Pipeline Rd. Ste 100, Hurst. All in-store gusts will receive a hall pass and have the chance to win a $500 Simon gift card. Then on Saturday, August 10, the mall will host family-friendly shindig with giveaways, interactive crafts with ArtsNET, hands-on STEAM activities with Thinkatorium, and more. It'll all take place during Texas Tax-Free Weekend, when shoppers can save on qualifying items such as footwear, clothing, backpacks, and school supplies.
